Datacenter IP ranges

Datacenter IPs are hosted on commercial cloud and colocation networks rather than residential ISPs. They account for a disproportionate share of bot, scraper, and VPN traffic. IPLogs flags every IP in one of the ASNs below with the dc_ip signal. Popular CDNs (Cloudflare, Akamai, Fastly) and cloud-native services that legitimately serve end users are on a separate allowlist to prevent false positives.

Why datacenter IPs matter

A real end-user device almost never originates from a datacenter ASN. When an incoming request comes from AS14061 (DigitalOcean) or AS24940 (Hetzner), one of three things is happening: a VPN or proxy is tunneling the traffic, a scraper bot is harvesting data, or an engineer is testing from a cloud VM. For most consumer-facing applications, all three warrant additional scrutiny.

The dc_ip signal alone has a low weight (0.1) so a datacenter IP is never automatically labeled a VPN. It combines with TCP/IP fingerprints, active probing, and ASN classification to reach a confident verdict.
